February 25, 2008 - Shed the Modesty

When it comes to sexuality, Americans have always been a little more shy. Europeans, on the other hand, have comfortably embraced nudity and sexuality. The opening of a new Paris exhibit only further proves Europeans' willingness to shed their sexual modesty.

Zizi Sexuel is an exhibit displayed at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, designed to encourage children and parents to be open about sex and reproduction. Often times, students are taught about sex with a focus on anatomy, ommitting the emotions attached to sex.

The exhibit is aimed at 9-to-14-year-olds who may lack education on sexual values. This exhibit is particularly helpful for those parents who may not have the time or means to educate their children.

Some of the questions asked and answered in the exhibit are, "What does making love mean?", "If a pregnant woman eats spinach, does the baby in her tummy taste it too?" and "What is masturbation?"

Exhibit designers hope the display will diminish any embarrassment and stimulate conversation about a subject that is still regarded as somewhat touchy.
