Does birth control affect libido?
ImageRecently my 17-year-old girlfriend started taking birth control and I’m wondering if it’s affecting here sexual appetite. I’m 18 and she lost her virginity to me. I’m wondering if she’s just starting to get more into sex or is it the pill? Also, is there a way to let her know I’m not in the mood without sounding mean or putting her down?  She makes it seem like if I’m not in the mood, something’s wrong or she doesn't care and will hop on me. Please help me.

Image I’m not a medical doctor, but I do know that some women complain that the pill lowers their libido. I’ve not heard the opposite, from a physical point of view. On the other hand, for a woman to know she can’t get pregnant from having sex could free her of inhibitions, thus raising her libido. But the cause isn’t so important as the fact that she wants to have sex more often than before.

All couples have to face this problem because people don’t have the exact same appetite for anything, including sex. So you have to learn to compromise. Perhaps you’ll agree to have sex some times when you don’t really feel like it, and once you start you might change your mind. And you can also give her orgasms without having to have one yourself. And then she’s just going to have to understand that there will be times when the two of you aren’t going to have sex, even though she’d like to. Talk about it, let her know that you’re not rejecting her because you don’t love her, but only that there are times when having sex just isn’t right, which is perfectly OK.
