December 28, 2007 - Race into the New Year

Ever hear anyone claim, “New Year’s Eve is overrated?” Of course you have. The phrase is becoming cliché.

Those that have drawn this conclusion have probably been celebrating the holiday the same way for years: Dressing to the nines and guzzling cocktails at a hyped-up party in anticipation of one moment. You spend all evening just waiting for the ball to drop and then it’s over in the blink of an eye.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve 2008 in a whole new, healthy way this year. If you should find yourself in Manhattan, you can ring in the New Year actively with the 3.3 Mile Fun Run around Prospect Park in Brooklyn or with New York Road Runners' 4-mile Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in Central Park.

For activity a little less brisk, take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for a breathtaking view of the fireworks from Staten Island, Brooklyn, Central Park and New Jersey simultaneously. A romantic, midnight walk may be just what you need to start 2008 on the right foot.

Any of these activities will keep you too far uptown or downtown to run into the Times Square crowds. 2008 is a brand new year, so start it off right feeling fresh, fit and sexy.

**Holiday Note: Dr. Ruth will be out of town with family until January 2, 2008! Happy New Year!
