Had she been merely a co-worker, then I would have said, go right ahead and ask her out on a date. I think that there aren’t enough places for people to meet and that the workplace offers a lot of possibilities and people should make use of them. But because she’s an assistant manager, it’s possible that she could get into trouble if her bosses discovered that she was dating you. I can’t give you an exact answer because the laws are different in every state, and every company has a different policy. One important factor is whether or not she has any authority over you, which I’m guessing she does. In other words, if you were to date someone with a higher rank at the company than you, but who worked in a different department, that probably would be fine. But clearly you work together, so that might mean that such a relationship could be considered sexual harassment. You wouldn’t want her to lose her job by seeing you. Now I understand that at this point nothing at all has happened. It might be possible to see if she’s interested, and if the relationship gets serious, perhaps one of you could ask for a transfer to another department. Or maybe the company you work for is very lenient with regards to employees dating. But I must point out to you the potential risk, which could have more serious consequences if she agrees to see you socially than if she turns you down.I
