How Long Should I Wait After having a Baby? |
|
I just had a baby three weeks ago. My doctor said for my husband and I not to make love until six weeks, but I'm not hurting. Would it be alright if we went ahead and did it? How do I know that I'm ready?
Just because there is no pain does not mean that you might not tear some tissue that was in the process of healing nicely by having intercourse. On the other hand, some people heal faster than others, and doctors give a blanket answer of six weeks knowing that many mothers who are physically ready to have sex may not be emotionally ready so that this gives them a little more time. Of course there are other ways of satisfying each other without intercourse so that you and your husband could start up your sex life again safely without consulting your doctor. But if you want to have intercourse, the only way to get the green light is to ask your doctor. |
