Actually you got some very good advice from your brother, and that’s to wait. I fully understand your desire. If you become sexually frustrated, you should definitely masturbate; there’s nothing wrong with that. But taking a relationship to the next level at age 13 is a mistake. Why? Because if this relationship becomes sexual it will also become a lot more serious. It will take up a lot of your time and concentration. It will add a lot more responsibilities to your life and will force you to grow up a lot faster. Now throughout human history, and still in many parts of the world, a 13 year old boy is much more of a “man” than one is in the US. A 13 year old would not be going to school and playing video games and hanging out with a girl, but he’d be working at a job, maybe for 10 to 12 hours a day. He’d never have a chance of getting a higher education and getting a job that was interesting and paid a good salary. He’d be caught on a treadmill that wouldn’t lead anywhere. Now he might have a young woman at his side and be having sex (though in many such societies, he might not because he couldn’t afford to have a wife) but his future would be locked in. Your future is still wide open. If you study hard and get good grades and go on to college, your future could be very bright. But if you voluntarily tie yourself down with a girlfriend in a serious, sexual relationship, you might end up missing that opportunity. I can’t say that such a relationship will 100% spoil that opportunity, but it does make it more difficult to attain. And so that’s why your brother and I are in agreement. When you’re older, you’ll be better able to handle both a sexual relationship and everything else you need to be doing. For now, try to keep your love life simplified so that you can do the best possible job in school and the other aspects of your life.
