There are some people that you can tell are gay just by looking at them. They purposefully dress a certain way or act a certain way, not because they want to make straight people know that they’re gay (though some straight people assume that) but rather because if you don’t look the part, even subtly, how else are other people who share your sexual preference going to know that you share theirs? (This isn’t as important to straight people as they are part of the majority.) But because not every gay person feels comfortable announcing their sexual identity, it’s impossible to tell if they are gay just by looking at them. So that forces someone who is gay and wants to discover if another person is gay to make the first move., which can be as simple as looking into the other person’s eyes. People of the same sex don’t stare at other people the same way people who are looking to make eye contact in a sexual way do, so that’s a very good system for you to use. But if you do, you’ll be saying to this person that you’re gay and you’re interested and you might get rejected, both as a lover and as a friend. If you want to avoid such risks, then you need to go to places where other lesbians congregate and then you can be certain that if you approach another woman you won’t be rejected because she prefers men.
