June 12, 2009 - Movies Under the Stars

If you’re looking for an date night idea, why not head outside and enjoy a film under the stars? During the summer, many cities and organizations across the country put on “outdoor movie nights.” There’s nothing more romantic than packing up a blanket, a picnic dinner, and catching a great film in the fresh summer breeze.

To help you get started, here is a listing of "movies under the stars" series happening in major cities across the country. Unless otherwise noted, they are free events.

New York, New York
Bryant Park Movie Screenings sponsored by HBO and Time Warner, run June through August every Monday night in beautiful Bryant Park. Access to the grass (bring a blanket!) is granted at 5PM. The movie starts as soon as the sun goes down - usually around 8 or 9PM. Make sure to get there early to claim your spot, as it gets crowded close to show time. Movies this summer include Dog Day Afternoon, Harold and Maude, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Hoboken, NJ
Hoboken Movies Under the Stars takes place at Pier A Park every Wednesday night, June through August. The movie starts at sunset (usually between 8 and 9 pm). Bring a blanket and low chair. Movies this summer include Frost/Nixon, Ironman, The Dark Night, and Doubt. (Thanks to Zlata for the tip!

Chicago, IL
Check out Movies in the Park every Tuesday from July 14th to August 25th in Chicago's Grant Park. Movies begin at sunset, but get there early - usual attendance is around 9,000 people. Movies this summer include great films like Sunset Boulevard, Psycho, and Tootsie.
